Boriana Dimitrova ist in Bulgariens Hauptstadt Sofia geboren und aufgewachsen. Mit vier Jahren erhielt sie Klavierunterricht, als Siebenjährige lernte sie am Musikgymnasium in Sofia die Oboe, später das Saxophon. Sie wurde Mitglied im Jugend-Blasorchester und in der Staatlichen Jugend-Big-Band, die Konzerte im In- und Ausland gaben. 1998 schloss sie ein Studium als erste diplomierte Saxophonistin in Bulgarien ab.

In den 90er Jahren spielte sie in zwei namhaften Rock- und Popbands Bulgariens, trat in Jazz-Clubs und auf Festivals auf, spielte Konzerte mit dem Staatssymphonieorchester und mit dem Symphonieorchester der Staatlichen Musikakademie und arbeitete als Studiomusikerin.
Zur Fortsetzung ihrer musikalischen Ausbildung kam Boriana nach Deutschland. Sie studierte in Hamburg an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Jazz-Saxophon und schloss ein weiteres Studium für Jazz-Komposition und -Arrangement an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Mannheim an.

2007 gründete sie ihr Boriana Dimitrova Quartett, das seitdem vielbeachtet in nationalen und internationalen Clubs und auf Festivals auftritt. Mit "Doublepulse", ihrem Duo mit dem Schlagzeuger Niels-Henrik Heinsohn, veröffentlicht sie 2105 das Album "Silent Understanding". In ihren Kompositionen für das Duo greift Boriana Dimitrova die instrumentellen Möglichkeiten aktueller Elektronik auf, ohne dass die Elektronik eine dominante Rolle einnimmt. Jeder Ton entsteht live auf der Bühne, Elemente aus der klassischen und der Neuen Musik treffen auf Jazz-Idiome und verschmelzen zu einem musikalischen Feuerwerk.
Doublepulse tritt als Duo auf, sucht aber auch die Begegnung mit Jazz-Kollegen. Auf diesem Album mit dem bekannten Hamburger Saxophonisten und Flötisten Gabriel Coburger und der Pianistin Daria-Karmina Iossifova, die solistisch und kammermusikalisch mit Werken aus der Neuen Musik konzertiert.


Boriana Dimitrova was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria. She started taking piano lessons at the early age of four, followed by the oboe and the saxophone some years later. Already as a child and teenager she joined the Sofia Youth Brass Band and the Youth Big Band, with which she performed in Bulgaria and abroad. In 1998 she graduated as the first female saxophonist in Bulgaria.

During the 90’s Boriana had some very active years. She was a member of two of the most popular Bulgarian rock and pop-bands, performed in jazz clubs and at festivals, played concerts with the State Symphonic Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra of the State Music Academy and, worked as a studio musician.

To continue her musical education Boriana came to Germany. In Hamburg she graduated from the Hamburg University of Music & Performing Arts as a music tutor in jazz saxophone. In Mannheim she graduated from the Mannheim University of Music & Performing Arts in jazz composition and arrangement.
In 2007 she founded the Boriana Dimitrova Quartet, which since then has performed in several clubs and at festivals in Germany and abroad. In her compositions for the duo Doublepulse Boriana Dimitrova picks up the instrumental possibilities of the latest electronics, without, however, that the electronics play a dominant role. Each tone is created live on stage, elements from the classical and new music encounter jazz idioms and melt into a musical fireworks.
Doublepulse perform as a duo, but also seek encounters with jazz colleagues. On this album with the well-known saxophonist and flutist Gabriel Coburger from Hamburg and the pianist Daria-Karmina Iossifova, who as a soloist and a chamber music player performs with new music works.
