Im Alter von 5 Jahren erhielt Nadia Birkenstock ihren ersten Klavierunterricht, sie wuchs mit viel klassischer Musik auf und sang in verschiedenen Chören und Ensembles. Sie begann ihre Gesangsausbildung in den USA (Westover School, Connecticut), durch ein Stipendium der Organisation ASSIST ermöglicht, und studierte nach dem Abitur Gesang an der Musikhochschule Düsseldorf.

Die keltische Harfe begegnete ihr erstmals in Form des legendären schottischen Harfenduos „Sileas“.
Sie erlernte das Spiel auf der Keltischen Harfe im Alter von 16 Jahren (zunächst autodidaktisch, später mt klassischem Unterricht) und absolvierte Meisterkurse für Keltische Harfe u.a. bei Kim Robertson (USA) und Bill Taylor (Schottland).
Bereits während des Studiums startete sie ihr Soloprogramm für keltische Harfe und Gesang, mit dem sie auf Bühnen, Burgen und Festivals sowie in Folk-Clubs, Konzertsälen und Kirchen international unterwegs ist.

Zum Repertoire der Harfenspielerin gehören sowohl eigene Songs und Kompositionen als auch traditionelle keltische Folk Songs und Tunes.

Zu ihren Festival-Auftritten der letzten Jahre zählt das "Southeastern Harp Festival" (North Carolina/USA), das "Sentmenat International Harp Festival" (Barcelona/Spanien), die „Rencontres Internationales de la Harpe Celtique“ in Dinan (Bretagne), das "Harp FriendsMeeting Leerdam" (Holland), das "Bardonnecchia International Harp Festival" (Turin/Italien), das "Viggiano Harfenfestival" (Italien), das Festival "CELTICA" im Aostatal (Italien), das Festival "Seduced by Harps" (Lommel, Belgien), die „Schlossfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci“, die „Darmstädter Residenzfestspiele“, das Festival „Venner Folk Frühling“, u.a.

Neben ihrer Konzerttätigkeit ist sie auch eine gefragte Workshop-Dozentin (Schwerpunkte Song Arrangement, kreative Übetechniken, Komposition).

Die Harfenistin ist außerdem regelmäßig gern gesehener Gast der Irischen Konsulate in Deutschland.

Ihre ersten beiden CDs „Emerald Isles“ (2001) und „Wandering between the Worlds“ (2003) veröffentlichte sie im Eigenverlag. 2006 erschien dann „Winter Tales“ beim Label LAIKA, wodurch sie einem grösseren Publikum bekannt wurde.
Weitere CDs sind „Les Berceuses de Coline“ (eine Auftragsproduktion für die französische Firma „Grandir Nature“ 2007) und ihr Songwriting-Album „Strange New Land“ (LAIKA 2008).
2011 erschien die Doppel-CD "The Enchanted Lake/Der verzauberte See" mit Mick Fitzgerald (ex "Wild Geese") als Sprecher der englischen Version. Diese CD erhielt den "Global Music Award".
Die CD "The Glow Within" (LAIKA 2013) entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem walisischen Perkussionisten und Gongbauer Steve Hubback. 2019 erscheint ihr Harfen Solo Album "Whispering Woods".

Nadia spielt unter anderem die 35-saitige Keltische Harfe aus Rosenholz ("Manjula") aus der Harfenbau-Werstatt Frank Sievert, die 27-saitige "Iona" von Bernhard Schmidt und die CAMAC Elektroharp (36 Saiten).

NADIA BIRKENSTOCK
was born in Solingen in the north west of Germany.
She started playing the piano at five and joined various choirs and vocal ensembles during her teenage years.
Her first contact with the Celtic harp was a concert of the legendary Scottish harp duo “Sileas” (Patsy Seddon and Mary McMaster).

She started to play the Celtic Harp at 16 (first self taught, later on with a classically trained teacher) and attended masterclasses with Kim Robertson (USA), Bill Taylor (Scotland) and others.
Thanks to a one-year scholarship (ASSIST), she received her first vocal training in the USA (Westover School, Connecticut) and afterwards studied voice at the Music Conservatory of Duesseldorf in Germany.

During her vocal studies she created her first solo performance program for Celtic harp and voice and is since touring internationally, playing concerts and festivals, where she is also teaching workshops.

Festival appearances include the "Southeastern Harp Festival" (North Carolina/USA), the "Sentmenat International Harp Festival" (Barcelona/Spanien), the “Rencontres Internationales de la Harpe Celtique” at Dinan (France, Brittany), the "Bardonnecchia International Harp Festival" (Turin/Italy), the festival CELTICA (Italy),the festival "Seduced by Harps" (Belgium),the "Harp Friends Meeting Leerdam" (Netherlands), the “Schlossfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci” (Berlin), the Venne Folk Festival and the Keltenfest Buchberg (Switzerland).
Nadia has also appeared on tv and radio with WDR, SWR, RBB, France Musiques, Celtic World radio Australia and others. She also frequently plays for the Irish Embassies in Cologne, Munich and Frankfurt.

Nadia's repertoire features both original songs and compositions and traditional Celtic folk songs and harp tunes.

In 2001 her first solo album "Emerald Isles" was released, followed by "Wandering between the Worlds" (2003), "Winter Tales" (LAIKA 2006), "Les Berceuses de Coline“ (an assignment for the French company “Grandir Nature” in 2007) and her songwriting debut, "Strange New Land" (LAIKA 2008).
In 2011 the CD "The Enchanted Lake/Der verzauberte See" was released, featuring Dublin actor and musician Mick Fitzgerlad (ex "Wild Geese"). This CD was awarded the "Global Music Award".
Her latest album "The Glow Within" (LAIKA 2013) was recorded with percussionist and gong maker Steve Hubback from Wales.
2019 her harp solo album "Whispering Woods" is released.

Nadia plays the "Manjula" a celtic harp built by German harp maker Frank Sievert (rosewood, tuning: E flat, 35 strings, gut), the 27-string "Iona" by Bernhard Schmidt and the CAMAC Elektroharp 36 strings as main concert instruments..
